The lit tiled dome of La Coupole Rouge at dusk

Marrakech · At the entrance to the city

La Coupole Rouge

Eleven rooms. Two restaurants. A rooftop over the city.

Scroll
A house built in the old manner, now open again.

Red tadelakt, polished by hand until the walls hold the light like still water. A black-and-white checkerboard floor that runs from the entrance to the courtyard without hesitating. Crystal chandeliers, hung high, kept.

The tiled dome is visible from the road, long before the door. The shutters are open. The house takes guests again.

The Rooms

Eleven rooms, and not one more.

Nine rooms and two suites, on two floors above the courtyard. Eleven is deliberately few — it is what lets the service stay personal and the house stay quiet. Arched windows open over the garden.

  • Nine rooms, two suites
  • Lime and tadelakt walls
  • Brass and dark wood
  • Hotel linen, pressed daily
  • Air conditioning in every room
The Terrace

The city comes up at sunset.

A bar under a draped pergola on one side, an open-air lounge on the other, checkerboard paving underfoot and the tiled dome lit above it. Not only our guests come up here — half of Marrakech does.

  • Bar beneath a draped pergola
  • Open-air lounge
  • Checkerboard paving
  • Views across the city to the Atlas

La Brasa

One grill, few dishes.

The dining room sits on the first floor, beneath the terrace: Spanish steak and seafood cooked over open fire. A short menu, done properly, in rose tadelakt and burgundy banquettes.

  • Dry-aged beef over coals
  • Whole fish on the fire
  • Plancha
  • A short, sharp wine list
  • Zellige wainscot, pierced brass lanterns

Le Bar Blanc

The slow part of the day.

An outdoor bar at the water's edge, and tables set under a pergola among twenty-year-old olive trees and palms. Lunch beside the pool, dinner under the trees, and nothing in a hurry.

  • Bar at the pool's edge
  • Garden tables under the pergola
  • Twenty-year-old olive trees and palms
  • Lunch poolside, dinner beneath the trees
